Publication Fees
Unlike most scientific journals, publication of Perceptual and Motor Skills and Psychological Reports is not subsidized by a society or by advertising. We rely on subscriptions for approximately 85 percent of costs, but there are fees to authors to cover the rest.
While many psychologists find page fees difficult to understand, researchers in other sciences are quite familiar with the concept. Costs to authors in other publications may be in the form of page fees (up to several hundred dollars per page), or a flat fee (up to $2600), or some combination of fees and support from a society.
The combination of subscriptions and author fees allows us to remain focused on science while remaining independent of influences which might be contrary to the basic tenets of science. Our goals are clear communication, careful attention to experimental design and logic, and openness to new ideas and alternative positions while pursuing greater understanding.
